ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS Overview

Language is the basis for thinking, communicating, and learning.
Students need language skills in order to comprehend ideas and
information, to interact socially, to inquire into areas of interest and study
and to express themselves clearly and demonstrate their learning.
Language skills are developed across the curriculum. As the students
move through the grades, they are required to use language with even
greater accuracy and fluency in an ever-expanding range of situations.
They are expected to assume responsibility for their own learning and to
apply their language skills in more challenging and complex ways.
Our school’s curriculum identifies the expectations for each grade and
describes the knowledge and skills that students are expected to acquire,
demonstrate and apply in their classwork, homework, tests, exams, and
in various other activities on which their achievement is assessed and
evaluated.
The curriculum document has been designed specifically for teachers and
students in the international context. This framework should facilitate the
development of courses that are stimulating both for the students and
the teachers. The knowledge and skills should ensure a smooth
transition from primary to secondary schooling.
